Bayern Munich fans stage protest against £64 Arsenal tickets
• Hundreds of supporters boycott first five minutes at Emirates • Arsenal supporters applaud fans on arrival to their seats Guardian sport Wednesday 21 October 2015 10.35 BST Hundreds of Bayern Munich fans boycotted the first five minutes of their Champions League match against Arsenal on Tuesday night at protest at what they called “excessive” ticket prices. FC Bayern Worldwide organised the protest in collaboration with several other supporters’ groups after Bayern fans were charged a minimum of £64 to attend the match in London. They were conspicuous by their absence at kickoff, with TV pictures capturing the empty seats in the area of the Emirates reserved for away supporters. A banner with the message “£64 a ticket. But without fans football is not worth a penny” was unfurled before fans started to fill up the section after five minutes of play, with Arsenal supporters breaking into a round of applause to welcome them. The protest received a positive reaction on social media, although BT Sport pundit Owen Hargreaves was not so impressed. “They only missed five minutes to make a statement,” he said. “The Bayern fans should have stayed out longer.” Afterwards Bayern’s coach Pep Guardiola promised Arsenal fans they would pay a “good price” for tickets in the return match. “I will speak with Arsène Wenger for next time to make it cheaper for our fans. “We will take care of Arsenal fans in Munich with a good price. They can travel,” he said. http://www.theguardian.com/football/...rsenal-protest
