Glazers leverage top asset Manchester United in branding deal with New Era
Tampa Bay Times staff Monday, October 12, 2015 9:16am While the Glazer family that owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers franchise is happy to see the Bucs win their first home game Sunday in more than a year, the Glazers are positively cheering the financial success of their far more lucrative sports asset: the Manchester United soccer team. Manchester United, a publicly traded franchise controlled by the Glazers, is valued by the stock market at just under $3 billion. That's roughly twice what the Bucs are worth, according to annual Forbes estimates of NFL teams. To further leverage the "ManU" brand, the team on Monday announced a multiyear partnership with international lifestyle brand company New Era to produce dual-branded leisure head wear — from caps, visors and hats to bobble hats and beanies — aimed at what Manchester United says is its 659 million global followers. New Era is best known for being the on-field cap for Major League Baseball. New Era is a 90-year family-owned business based in Buffalo, N.Y., not far from the Glazer family's own business origins in Rochester. http://www.tampabay.com/news/busines...ew-era/2249362
