Default United fan charging Old Trafford tourists £20 to take them to the pub

Manchester United fan charging Old Trafford tourists £20 to take them to the pub

Matchgoing Man Utd fans are outraged at the conduct of one fan's selection of matchday experiences available on a website.

Old Trafford resembles a tourist attraction more than a football stadium these days, and it turns out one Manchester United fan is charging day-trippers £20 to visit the local pub.

In a matchday package available on the Partner Fan website, United supporter Stephen Howson promises supporters: "We'll go to the pub pre-game and sing songs and also show you where we go after a match, too."

Howson's packages, which have drawn scathing criticism from Reds online, range from stadium tours to a £20 tour of the Football Museum in Manchester city centre, where admission is free.

Another package the United fan, who boasts of 'extensive connections with former Manchester United players', pitched was the chance to meet a club legend - for £1,000. The page has since been deleted.

In response, Howson released a statement on Twitter defending Partner Fan and his packages, insisting 'no one is being taken advantage of'.

He said: "Fanzines charge fans, pubs charge fans, scarf sellers and badge makers are charging fans - for time, products or services. If you’ve got the time to show people around for free, sign up. You’ll get plenty of people wanting to be shown around the city."

Partner Fan is due to launch on October 25 and one source, who was approached to host one club's matchday offers, told the M.E.N. Rio Ferdinand is flying out to Beijing for the launch.
